Westside E-Waste Process
After we receive the items, we perform a quality assurance check to see which are still in working condition. If an item has minor damages and can be fixed, we refurbish it with the intention of reselling it.
Items containing personal data, such as hard drives, RAM, and other storage drives, are erased using NAID-certified equipment and then shredded for maximum data protection.
With the items that work, we give ourselves a three-month limit to sell the respective items at an affordable price. After three months, we move any leftover items into our donation bin.
Donations go to three of our local vendors: local school districts and college campuses, third-world countries, and local donation centers, such as The Salvation Army.
Items that are not taken as donations or do not meet donation standards are scraped for parts and recycled.
Instead of scrapping these items in-house, we use a third-party service that follows California’s laws and regulations regarding scrapping and recycling toxic waste.
